In the spring of 2013, I asked my good friend and favorite third grade teacher Lily Sprengelmeyer if I could pay a visit her “One Magic Classroom.”  I read a story to her students (Max’s Words, by Kate Banks), we wrote an exquisite corpse story together in response to the story, and I even got to play a couple of songs for them on their classroom piano.  I played “The Cat and the Mouse” by Aaron Copland, and asked them to visualize the sounds of the cat and the mouse throughout the song, and to try to guess what happens at the end of the song.  I also played “The Storm” by Burgmüller since it was a stormy day, and asked students to visualize the wind and the rain.  You can read more about this classroom visit and the other magical things happening in Lily’s classroom on her blog: One Magic Classroom.
